    Mini Zoo Rohtak

Rohtak Zoo Gate Rohtak Zoo, established in 1986 over an area of 43 acres, is situated along National Highway-9 in Rohtak city. Its prime location enhances its accessibility and visibility, making it a vital center for wildlife awareness and urban conservation. Initially developed as a Deer Park, the zoo now houses multiple species of mammals, reptiles, and birds, with a total of 53 species and 326 animals. Recent infrastructure development has focused on modernizing enclosures, improving visitor facilities, and enhancing educational signage.

The zoo serves key objectives such as wildlife conservation, public education, rehabilitation of rescued animals, and maintaining genetic stock of endangered species. It also provides veterinary care to injured or orphaned wild animals. During 2022–2025, Rohtak Zoo expanded its animal population with additions such as Asiatic Lions, Himalayan Black Bears, Indian Grey Wolves, Hyenas, Macaws, and Mouse Deer, among others. Breeding programs have also been initiated for tigers and lions as per guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), New Delhi.

The zoo has hosted education and awareness programs regularly, including events on World Wildlife Day, World Sparrow Day, and Wildlife Week (1–7 October), where entry remains free to encourage participation. Naming ceremonies of hand-reared tiger cubs like Savi and Chaitanya have increased public engagement. The zoo’s layout plan and animal housing structures have been revised and approved under the updated master plan for 2023–25.

Veterinary care and hygiene are given high priority with daily health checks, vaccinations, and regular enclosure sanitation. Dedicated signboards, information panels, and student visits strengthen the zoo’s role in environmental education.

To protect animals during heatwaves, Rohtak Zoo installed desert coolers in big-cat enclosures, bamboo mesh and green nets around aviaries, and water sprinklers in deer zones.

Entry fees remain affordable (₹30 for adults, ₹20 for children), and the zoo is open to the public throughout the week, except on Mondays.

Rohtak Zoo continues to evolve as a modern mini-zoo aligned with conservation goals. With ongoing development, increased species diversity, and strong community outreach, it plays an essential role in Haryana’s wildlife conservation and urban ecological awareness strategy.
